Living quarters

I am just barely getting around to posting these pictures that I had totally forgotten about. A while back I blogged about being excited to paint Fara's room (or any room in a place we've lived, for that matter), so I thought I would show the before and after project. Don't expect high quality comparison photos; our camera was dead so we had to do a "before" video on the flip instead. But it's pretty fun seeing the contrast.

The color we painted it is called "Peacetime Blue" from OSH. And it really is peaceful. I love being in her room.
Day.

Night.

Because Fara was quite overdue, I ended up having a bunch of “extra” days to do whatever I wanted before she was born. It was awesome—I swam a lot, went on a ton of walks, and did a few projects that I had been procrastinating. I had her room all ready to go by her due date but within those last few days (being the fickle pregnant woman I was), I ended up changing everything back to how I had originally wanted to decorate her room, a.k.a. these “boy colors,” which quite a few people gave me a hard time for using. I can’t help it! I'm just a blue girl. And I loved the elephant print. Her crib skirt and all the fabric are just made from cut up receiving blankets. Anyway, since we now live in a place that we could paint, I decided to finally take some pictures of her room (her white furniture didn’t look so great with the white walls in our last apartment). I am by no means a decorator, but I had fun making and choosing what little things would go up in her room. And if you know me, you know it will probably change again soon because I have commitment issues when it comes to possessions. But for now, we can remember what Fara’s room looked like when she was a wee one, plus I have a chance to show off my DIY projects and Craigslist deals.

Also used as our "home office." Desk/hutch $99 from CL. Rob changed out the knobs and painted it for me. Rocker/recliner $30 from CL. Stretchy white slipcover $60 from Amazon. Great for peeling off and bleaching when needs be. Changing table/bookshelf $35 from CL (+ $10 Kohl's cash... funny story there).

Dresser ($80 from RC Willey outlet) and crib/mattress ($50 from CL), again both painted by Rob. And mirror closet. (Are mirror closets outdated? Because I love them and want one in every bedroom of my house someday--really opens up the room plus Fara loves to watch herself play in front of it.)

 Homemade mobile.

I love her lamp. $20 at HomeGoods. I changed out the shade and added the polka dot fabric to match. Also covered the frames with matching fabric... I love matching.

Recognize these? I think I may have painted over them in different colors like 3 times. Like I said, commitment issues.

And that's all for now.

  3. Totally appropriate and awesome, especially for a child of yours. Pink is overdone and cliche. All that's missing is a giant cool pool chair. Also I enjoyed remembering your Kohl's cash story. Why is it so thrilling to find a good deal??

  4. oh everything looks perfect! I absolutely LOVE her room. Mirror closets are THE BEST - i am dying to switch my ordinary closet doors for mirror ones. isn't Fara's nursery the most fun room in the house to decorate??
